A letter to my now two year old son…

Image
Rhett, How in the world is it possible that you are now two?  Two years have passed in the blink of an eye?  Two years have flashed by.  Time has sped up, and I’m certain it’s not slowing down any time soon.  How does one slow down the clock to truly enjoy every waking moment of your child, your baby, becoming a little man?  There are so many milestones to mention.  So many things that I should have written about, so many things I’ve probably missed taking the two minutes to sit and write about.   I don’t want to miss any of it, because I realize that I will longingly want to look back and read all of these memories., funny stories and have them forever.   Maybe I will long for the warm and fuzzy memories when you are a teenager, working hard to make me crazy.  Maybe I will long for them after you have moved away from your Mom to seek your own path.  Maybe I will long for them next week.  For these reasons, I write. You...

The sweetest thing..

I enjoyed a wonderful birthday yesterday with lots of birthday wishes from friends and family!  My great hubby brought me flowers, took me out to dinner and bought me a new beautiful watch!  When John brought home flowers, there was a balloon in them.  Which, of course, he really bought for Rhett since balloons are his favorite thing in the world whenever he gets one.  So this video was prompted by his love of the balloon and the fact that he is learning to say and repeat EVERYTHING we do! Sweetest words, the best birthday wish a Mom could ask for... Love, Em.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

What a difference a year makes.  I'll probably say that about a million times before Rhett is 18. So, I distinctly remember only one year ago, propping my little baby baby boy Rhett up in his cute little GREEN onesie my girlfriend, Janet, bought him last year for St. Paddy's.  Posing him with his frog buddy and taking about 100 pictures to get the absolute cutest picture possible of this little man, who was only a few weeks old last year at St. Paddy's day.  It was great fun, and he would just sit, flop over to the side, drool and gaze around at mommy and the camera.  I remember it was 15 minutes of activity and he slept for a good hour afterwards.  See evidence of this fun photo shoot below... Then....we arrive to 2011, where my little man is an active 13 1/2 month old toddler, all boy.  It was ALL I could do to snap 10 pictures, most of them were in mid-motion...grabbing the remotes, the wipes, monitor, whatever he could get his hands o...

Birthday Party Fun!

Image
Towards the end of the celebration, still going strong!  (Not just Rhett, us too!) We had a great day yesterday with a serious amount of birthday fun. Had a gathering of family and a few close friends with their little ones for an afternoon play time bonanza! It was back yard fun, so glad that the weather here in February is still mid-70's!  I'll whine in July, but this was truly PERFECT!! Rhett had so much fun just running around with all of the kids and tearing apart toys, riding in the wagon, climbing and sliding on his new slide (thank you Auntie Nana & Stull Grandparents!).    A great friend of mommy's made some fantastic birthday cake, and a special cake just for Rhett with one of his favorites - MONKEY's!  At first, with everyone gathered around Rhett he was a bit hesitant, with everyone staring at him! Plus, he was in the back yard, in his high chair and had to be thinking "what in the world am I doing out here??".  It took him ...

Just have to share...

We had a somewhat traumatic visit to the pediatrician today, so I'm posting some pictures from Rhett's birthday 'day' yesterday to remind me he's a happy boy, and not traumatized for life due to the three shots he received today.  Boy - shots were easy when he was an infant.  Now, it was as if someone was branding the poor little kid..and I had to hold him down!  Lots of crying, screaming and hyperventilating.  Thankfully he is snoozing soundly as I type this. One Year Stats: Weight:  22lbs, 10oz - which is a long way from the 8lbs 8oz when he was born just a year ago! Still holding steady at the 50th percentile - Mr. Average. Height:  31.25" - he started at 20.5in, so he has grown 10.75" in one full year! Also holding at the 90th percentile - Tall Boy! Rhett had a great birthday.  He spent it with his Mom & Papa, and his Aunt Shelly came to see him too!  We went out to an early dinner (more for Mom & Dad, we...

Happy Birthday little man!

February 8, 2011 Happy 1st Birthday Rhett! Dear Rhett, It’s the eve of your first birthday, and I’m sitting in amazement. Astonished that this last year has flown by so fast. One year ago, I would have never imagined my life would change in so many wonderful ways. I knew things would be different, I knew being a Mom was hard work….but I never imagined how so much hard work, tired days and nights, worry, stress, exhilaration, pride, unknowing, and everyday life could add up to something so wonderful and so worth it. It’s a life time of love, and I get to feel that little slice of heaven every single day. My life is better, because of you. My life is meaningful, because of you. I am a better person, woman, wife and now a mother, because of you. I am unbelievably grateful for my own mother and family, because of you. You are absolutely, undoubtedly the best thing to ever happen to us! ...... A few one year milestones to think about….. You laugh and giggle, and your...

It's all over now...he's walking.

Image
This post is delayed a couple of days....as 24 hours after Rhett started taking unassisted steps, he was full on walking by Saturday.  No joke.  This boy isn't kidding around, he has stuff to see and do and he frankly, doesn't need our help. Here is a short video of his walking skills, albeit they are a little 'drunken sailor' at the moment, but they get better by the hour!! Grandma Brown & cousin Maddy were able to witness Rhett's walking skills develop while visiting this weekend.  It was a great visit.  We all enjoyed going to Danica's first birthday party on Saturday, she had so much party fun, she passed out in the middle of opening her gifts! Rhett went ahead and helped her out opening a few more and testing out her new chair. Here she is asleep in her new recliner. Dani asleep in her recliner Rhett has also decided that it's appropriate to put his toys IN the Christmas tree now, as they really should be decorations too right?  Gra...

Colorado Visit with the Grandparents

Image
Last week Rhett & I were so lucky and happy to fly back to Colorado for an 'in between' holiday visit! It was so fun to spend time with all the grandparents and get away from the city for awhile too. Rhett is such a great traveler, it's hard to stay home! Rhett really experienced his first 'taste', literally, of snow, courtesy of his Grandma Judy..and he was able to see Chickens, Grandma taught him how to drink out of a real cup (who needs a sippy cup?), be present and Grandpa Hutch's art show opening and do lots of visiting and shopping with family. A few pics commemorating the trip below. Since Rhett is growing and changing so quickly, I wish we were just a little bit closer to my home, I miss having my parents and family take part in Rhett's growing up so much. We'll be burning up the highways, skyways and Internet trying to keep up. Grandma & Rhett Rhett & I ready for the day! It was cold!! Grandpa Hutch & Rhett at h...

Santa Visit

Image
It was a big day, visiting Santa and all...but truly, the hit was the candy cane after.  You would have thought I gave him the tastiest treat on the planet!  "Real" food is really starting to come into full play now!  A few funny pics to commemorate the moment.  Rhett could have cared less about the very odd looking (really!) Santa, and Dani, well she wanted NO PART of any of it.  Ok, take the picture so I can get off this guys lap.  MOM!!!! Who are you?  You look weird. Mmmmm, it's all about this candy cane. That's a BIG NO THANK YOU from Dani.  Freaked out! Mmmm, more candy! Santa Aftermath...wiped out!
