Happy Birthday little man!
Dear Rhett,
It’s the eve of your first birthday, and I’m sitting in amazement. Astonished that this last year has flown by so fast. One year ago, I would have never imagined my life would change in so many wonderful ways. I knew things would be different, I knew being a Mom was hard work….but I never imagined how so much hard work, tired days and nights, worry, stress, exhilaration, pride, unknowing, and everyday life could add up to something so wonderful and so worth it. It’s a life time of love, and I get to feel that little slice of heaven every single day.
My life is better, because of you.
My life is meaningful, because of you.
I am a better person, woman, wife and now a mother, because of you.
I am unbelievably grateful for my own mother and family, because of you.
You are absolutely, undoubtedly the best thing to ever happen to us!
......A few one year milestones to think about…..
You laugh and giggle, and your smile lights up my every day,
Tickle Monster, or being chased brings about fits of screams and giggles,
You are walking like you have been doing it for months, and you are working on running!
You know and understand a few words that have meaning such as mama, papa, dada, baba, dog, yum, and even a few words that just make us smile and laugh like icky caca!
You are sleeping 12 hours a night, although about ½ the time you will still wake up in the middle of the night and want a bottle, which you will drink down immediately then fall right back to sleep. You don’t want to be rocked or cuddled, you are independent and want to be put down to go to sleep on your own.
You still take two naps a day, and you are a much happier little boy when you do get those naps. If you can’t get those naps, you are very cranky.
You have a very set routine during your days. You spend them with Mommy at home, and some days have Nae take care of you. You especially love night time, dinner followed by a bath to play, then reading a book (Goodnight Moon is a favorite) and finally bed. Most nights you are sound asleep at 7pm.
You want to be cuddled when those awful teeth are bothering you or when you are not feeling well. Then Mommy feels like she has lots of ‘mommy love’ to offer.
Speaking of teeth, you are working on a mouth full, with all of your front 8 teeth in! More are coming in and you are drooling like a faucet some days!
Foods that you love: bananas, yogurt, toast, mac n cheese, noodles with butter, carrots, baby cheetos, oranges.
You have learned and you still know the ‘secret handshake’, which you practice and show to your Grandma and Grandpa Countess. It cracks everyone up and you think you are super smart. Grandma taught you how to drink out of a cup, and you are not a big fan of ‘sippy’ cups, but you have taken to those with a straw.
You love to be outside, the trees and the grass, everything that moves and is alive just makes you happy!
.....
Son, you have given new meaning to my life. I absolutely CANNOT wait to experience every single moment of the rest of your lifetime. To hold you, when you need held. To encourage you when you need uplifting. To be your parent and guide you, even when you decide you are not my biggest fan (I’m pretty sure these moments happen in the teen years). No matter what, I will never EVER be far from you.
I only wish the clock to slow down, to savor every moment and be able to cherish it all with you. Where is the pause button?
All my love for you Rhett, all my love,
Mom
