A letter at 5 years old...time warp.

February 8, 2015 at Nanny's house A letter at 5 years old... My dearest son Rhett – Writing you a letter on your birthday has turned into a tradition for me, well, for us.   I will try to continue this and give these to you some day when you might want to read them. Sneaking in the grass I’m sad this evening.   Because my “baby” has gone away.   There are no further reminders of the baby you once were.   The wispy hair, baby skin, toddler antics and crazier behaviors.   All long ago, gone in the past, forever more.   I have a hard time thinking about the fact you are growing up.   I fear that I won’t always remember or recall all of these things about “little Rhett”.   I know that I will miss the little boy smell, the little cute smiles, snuggles, tears and everything that makes you so unique and so much a part of me.   I fear that you are growing up so fast, can I keep up to guide you and help mold you into the ki...

Annual love letter to my son....at four!

Rhett -                                                                                       Feb 2014 What has become a yearly or annual tradition, writing a letter for my son.   It’s an honest outpouring of my feelings for you.   I hope that one day you will sit down, with maturity and wisdom, and be able to feel through my words, how much you have brought to my life, and those around you. It’s a pretty incredible thing, bringing a life into this world we live in today.   Although there are many good, along with the bad, I try hard to remember that each day is a gift.   Some days are better, some are challenging.   One thing I know today, without doubt.   All of my days are better with my son in them.   Rhett, we play th...

School Days...

A true smile.  Rhett at 3 1/2 years old It's that time of year, where you send your kiddo to school and they take adorable, goofy photos of your child.  We actually had to do this twice this year!  On the first try, they did not account for Rhett's glasses, so we were returned cute photos with white glare off the glasses.  Thus, round 2 was necessary. I love this top photo, because that is a true smile from my son.  He is so cute, it pains me!  Honestly, I can't begin to explain the attention he gets out in public.  I took him to Starbucks with me last week, and we went inside together. I order a coffee for myself, thinking that Rhett is along for the trip (what 3 year old needs a Starbucks, right?).  The counter lady says "Oh my, he is SOOOOO cute! What's his name?" Then proceeds to talk to Rhett.  Rhett was pretty shy about it, but she got his name out of him.  I paid for my drink, and then go down to pick it up and there is a '...

'Tis the season!

Family fun in the snow, sledding in Flagstaff It's that time of year, cuteness, craziness, Santa, snow (we try to find some every year, even if we live in Arizona) and that silly elf abound!  We are busy with last minute preparations, along with all the normal day to day routines. I could not resist getting this little tidbit of my son singing "I saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" out there for you to hear.  The sound of his sweet voice makes my heart happy.  His funny little replacement of words, is SO RHETT.  This could not represent him better. Will try to get some holiday photos up from Christmas celebrating, and in the mean time, here are some shenanigans that Archie has gotten himself into this season! Helping to decorate the Gingerbread house Apparently he likes the oreos, and he got a new scarf! Roasting a few marshmallows with friends.

T-Ball Summer Program Fun

Image
Love the way Jayde captioned this! Smiling at 3rd base It has been such a busy few months, I never was able to brag on my little man about his summertime T-Ball Adventure.  Auntie Jayde took some amazing photos, and I have to share them here.   First, I will say that my son was far more interested in swimming.  He's a fish, and loves his lessons and any time he can get in the water.  But let's face it, swimming isn't very picture friendly.  Besides, we wanted him to experience a team sport and it was a first trial in the arena of "team".  The biggest disadvantage was we live in Arizona and it was a summer league, so it was HOT HOT HOT to say the very least. Rhett did really pretty well considering he was practicing in over 100 degree heat on most days, and playing games weekly as well.  We went through a lot of gatorade. Some games were as late as 7:30 start, which is late for a 3 year old.  He had also never had a real experience of pla...

1st Day of School

Image
Ready for School! The day has arrived.  My "baby" is no longer a baby.  Frankly, I've known this for awhile now.  It's not a secret.  It's been clearly evident for a few years really.  Just watch him walk, talk, jump, run, kiss the girls, talk back, get crazy, be sassy, be RHETT! Today, was the first "official" day of Rhett being enrolled in a "real" pre-school.  Not just daycare, or fancy summer programs.  Really a focused curriculum with a learning environment, social skills and a whole lot of expectation from the teachers, peers, (and his parents)! So, today there were many kids going back to school.  I saw lots of cute faces, and fancy clothes posted in pictures all over the net.  I found myself smiling at them all.  Excited for all those kids, parents and teachers.  Most of them were the little kiddos belonging to my family or close friends who also have kids heading to school.  Facebook is such an amazing inven...

Amblyopia & A Boy

Image
Just after receiving the new glasses. Notice anything different?  Our cute little blond-haired boy, now has glasses.  He is three.  He is a boy.  He likes to jump up and down and acts like a crazy loon somedays.  Oh, boy...my boy...this is going to be FUN. Our pediatrician noticed something amis with Rhett's eyes at his 3 year check up (take your kids to the doctor everyone!).  He referred us to a pediatric opthamologist.  I was perplexed how in the world they would test a 3 year olds eyes.  It's not like he can read a chart!  It was a long and challenging appointment, but a nice doc, and we left with a diagnosis.  We also left with a directive.   Turns out, they don't use a chart with all of the "E" turned all over the place.  They use pictures of fun stuff like cake, trees, bears, houses etc.  Everything else is exactly the same.   So they plop my kiddo in the big giant chair, turn off all of the lights and ...
