Missing Rhett, Missing Blogging

Running down the boardwalk in California

Scared of that big blue water, will just sit a spell and look awhile.

So it's been forever since I have truly been on track devoted to blogging. I need to start again. I fear I will loose the details of this life we are living ferociously day by day, by not writing them down. Not that my life itself is enormously impactful, but I like to think someday these words may impact my son, or perhaps impact my friends & family.

Rhett. Wow, what an amazing adventure this whole parenting gig is. There are days that I just want to step into a closet & hide for the 5 minutes of peace it may provide during a particularly taxing day. There are days, like today, when I've been away from Rhett for a short time and I feel like my soul is shattering not having him near me. How do we ever let them go to college? Not thinking about it. "la la la la la"

Rhett & Mommy on the beach in Laguna - March 2011

An amazing and beautiful boy he is becoming. I hope his heart and his soul are equally developing into the sweet caring little man I'm trying hard to do right by. Rhett is 100mph or zero. There is no better way to describe. He is all boy. The rocks go in his mouth or thrown. The dirt is in his hands, mouth, or thrown. Everything is examined, and tossed. Other things are torn apart. Loves to rip apart legos & block towers, and we oblige by building them. Everything is climbed, slid off of and climbed again. There is some falling and tumbles along the way. We've experienced a sunburn (mild don't panic) from the zoo, teething x1000 and falls, falls, falls.

Yet, there is this sweet boy. He smiles, looks at you under big lashes with big blue eyes, and says ever so softly "Hi!". Then, again, HI! And then waves and smiles and waves and flirts. He doesn't care who, when, where or why, he's just socially a flirt! Old folks love him.  Did I mention the entire routine continues with "Bye" after he's done?  It's hilarious.  He goes as far as saying "Goodbye" (the full word) to his bubbles as they float down the drain in the tub even.  He cracks me up.

Rhett & Mommy on the beach again, sunset!

Then there is this biting habit he has developed with me, his mom. Only me. And he's not biting out of anger but rather when excited or in the bathtub as I sit along the side of the tub waiting for him. Isn't that so odd? Maybe he's practicing for vampire basics.  I'm guess I may have to bite him back at some point.  Not looking forward to discipline with this boy.  At times if you tell him "No", he will look right at you and say "NO NO NO" all the while pointing his finger at you too.  Then he giggles and runs as fast as he can, away.  Really?
Rhett has also traveled a lot since he's been born! What a traveled kid! We have been to Colorado several times, recently over Memorial Day to visit family & make sure Grandad Countess is recovering from the stroke he suffered in February. He is working hard! Up walking with a cane! Rhett is ready to chase him around the garden.

Rhett has also been to Washington state, Texas, California, and all over Arizona and Colorado!  He's such a good traveler, and really will sleep nearly anywhere.  Guess those are the perks of dragging your son around with you everywhere you go.  We have yet to go to Missouri and New Jersey this year also!  And.....we are leaving Saturday for a week long trip to Indianapolis for my work. Thank goodness Michele will be traveling with us!  Hoping to be able to at least visit the Children's museum while we are there, it's supposed to be the best in the country!  For those who know me well, who would have EVER thought I'd be excited to visit a children's museum?  Boy, have times changed... BOY!!!

Mr. Serious, contemplating the waves.

Hoping to blog more often, and post more pictures.  After all, this is truly a gift to my son.  I better keep up on it!
