Colorado Bliss

Ahhh, the weather was worth a million bucks! John and I had a great visit to my family in Colorado this last week. Spent time with my Mom, Judy, and step-dad Bill at the store (it's a working thing during tourist season due to the trading post!), and we also spent some time fishing with my Dad, Keith. We went up on the Dolores (West Fork) river, and were able to fish on Dunton property. Dunton was once a tiny little hot springs 'shack' town when I was just a kid. We would camp up there, cross country ski, and swim in the natural hot springs, which was located in a shack. Now-a-days, the place is owned by a very wealthy foreign family, and they have turned it into a beautiful resort property, restoring everything to 'new' but it still looks 'old'. It's 5 star and then some. It's kept it's rustic charm and it's old feel, even the hot springs. I am grateful that we know the manager very well (family friend) and my Dad helps stock the trout into the rivers etc., so we are able to visit the property and even fish. What fun for amatuers like us! This brown trout was the largest trout I have ever caught on a fly rod (it measured between 17-18").

I don't care what anyone says, Waders are SEXY darn it!! We tried to pull it off. The deer flys were horrible (I came home with many bites), and I think I concentrated on taking pretty pictures more than fishing, but it was great fun all around.
It was a great visit home, makes you homesick a bit. Although we were anxious to be home in Arizona, not anxious to be in 115 degree heat. Times like these, I wish I was a snowbird. One can continue to dream....
