San Diego Family, Sun, Fun
What a weekend of great fun! My sister-in-law Cindy and I headed to San Diego over memorial day, just hoping for a fun 'get away from it all' weekend with plans to see family and enjoy the beach. We were able to have dinner with my younger brother, Ross, who happens to be at Point Loma in San Diego before his departure to New Hampshire. He is a submariner with our U.S. Navy, on the USS Helena. Sunday he gave us a tour of the base, his sub and was splendid about answering 2 gals questions, questions, questions! I'm certain he had a laugh from all of our dumb questions. We were chatty. The tour was incredible, I can honestly say "I had no idea". I am so proud of my brother, and I have a new found respect not only for him, but also for all our service men and women. Those submariners, wow, what a sacrifice and really a talent to serve in the capacity they choose. I am proud, I feel safe and I am so grateful to have been able to visit! After the tour, we headed up to La Jolla, to enjoy some lunch, sunshine, sea and sea lions basking on the beach. It was a great and beautiful afternoon and who could ask for better company.
On Memorial Day we headed up to Oceanside Harbor, where I have fond memories of beach time as a kid. It was a splendid day, and even better when we found parking upon arrival! Spent a bit of time walking around, with the BEST fish & chips ever for lunch, yum!
Headed over to Sam & Carl's place for a great barbque, and to meet new found family and friends. They are a great bunch, we had a lot of fun, and shared stories into the evening around the fire pit. Ahhh...San Deigo, when can we go back?
